“My son is on the autism spectrum…Life for me can easily become unbalanced and it’s easy to put myself on the back-burner. Farmgirlfit is all about taking time (even if it’s only an hour or just 5 minutes) to take care of YOU and to celebrate YOU. We can’t be strong for our families if we are not strong for ourselves.”

Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

Two years ago I saw on Facebook that Farmgirlfit was opening a Coeur d’Alene location and they were offering a sweet deal for the first 50 people to join. I was too late for the sweet deal but I joined anyway and am still here!! I have worked out most of my life but when I had my son in 2002, working out and making myself a priority pretty much came to a halt. When I saw the FGF post, I was in a place in my life where I knew I needed to do something bold and something that would challenge me mentally and physically. I was probably in the worst shape of my adult life at that point and I felt like things were headed downhill quickly so I needed to turn that situation around!

If you could tell your Farmgirlfit story in 100 words or fewer, how would it read?

Joins thinking this could be hard. Realizes: it is hard but worth it. Gets an overuse IT Band injury because in her mind she’s 25 but her body realizes otherwise. For a year, modifies The Grind to protect injury and works on rehab and strengthening. Gets to squat again – hallelujah. Is thankful for learning about the Couch Stretch. Proceeds to encourage everyone to do the couch stretch after every workout.

Words that inspire me?

“Staying in your comfort zone isn’t living” and “Don’t forget to be awesome.”

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far?

Every Box Jump that I clear!

What are your next health and fitness goals?

To make PRs every chance I get.

Favorite exercise at FGF is? Least favorite?

Favorite – Rowing or Plate Pushes (it’s an endurance, keep moving forward thing). Least Favorite – Rope Climb (WHY?!?!?)

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

The absolute acceptance of who you are, where you are and the celebration of that fact.

Do you have a funny Farmgirlfit story?

I don’t know about funny, but my first real Grind sums up what FGF is all about. It was shortly after the opening of the Cd’A location and the only other person there was Brandy. Here I am, still recovering from the Foundations class, and the only other person here is the epitome of fitness and strength. H-o-l-y. Crap. Box Jumps were part of the workout that day, and Brandy turned that box up on its side and tested it out to see if that was the height she wanted to do. She looked like a freaking gazelle floating up to 30 inches. Meanwhile, I’m doing step-ups on the purple 12” box. BUT – Brandy is an amazing human being and made me feel so good about what I was doing versus comparing myself to her and what she was able to do. It ended up being a great workout. That is what FGF is all about – each of us with different backgrounds, abilities, experiences, but all there working together to better ourselves. I strive to project that to every new member I meet – be proud of what you’re doing because you’re doing it!

How has the rest of your life been influenced by Farmgirlfit?

My son is on the autism spectrum. In addition to homeschooling him, I also develop and manage his therapeutic care, hire and manage his support workers, manage and coordinate his medical care, provide near constant companionship to him, and in my spare time I research new and cutting edge treatments for his co-morbid conditions. Life for me can easily become unbalanced and it’s easy to put myself on the back-burner. Farmgirlfit is all about taking time (even if it’s only an hour or just 5 minutes) to take care of YOU and to celebrate YOU. We can’t be strong for our families if we are not strong for ourselves and that’s what I incorporate into my daily life.

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

My son – I have to be able to keep up with him!  And, I vowed to start aging backwards so there’s that.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

My son is very active so we are always out and about doing something. Summer is our favorite season and we do plenty swimming, biking, scootering, trampoling etc. I also have a Training and Consulting business that allows me to express my creative side and talk with other adults.

My happy place is:

My sauna or soaking in some sun.

Guilty pleasure:

Anything on the BRAVO channel. My current favorite is The People’s Couch.

I’m proud…

To be who I am. I wouldn’t want to be anyone else!

You might not know this about me:

I practice natural healing and am a huge advocate for clean eating and living in a way that supports the body so that it can heal itself and operate at its highest expression of health.  I am particularly fanatic about fermenting foods!

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

Do the Couch Stretch every day!!
